Are you an aspiring photographer and just don’t know where to begin the journey to becoming one? Then join Michael ‘Mickey’ Burnett as he guides us through the steps towards becoming a professional photographer. In this Photo Talk, Mickey gives practical advice to and navigates us through the various options that are available to the aspirant photographer.With a tenure of 14 years at Vega School of Branding, his expertise in the field of photography is extensive. Mickey has also immersed himself into the craft, doing a two-year stint in London, where he served as a photographic assistant to the esteemed Architectural photographer, Dennis Gilbert.

Exhibiting your photography to the public offers many benefits. Join Daniel as he talks to us about the how to and benefits of photographic exhibitions. Daniel is currently a lecturer at Unisa’s Department of In- formation Science. He is a renowned artist, archivist, and heritage practitioner. He is a published interdisciplinary author and has showcased his artwork in scores of solo and group exhibitions over a decades-long career. He has curated several exhibitions, includ- ing exhibition curatorships under the guidance of Professor Alexander Edward Duffey.

From what started out as hobby taking pictures of cars, Alistair has grown his pho- tography business, Raw Photography, into one of the leading agencies in Durban and is featured regularly in Speed and Sound Magazine.A key bedrock to this growth has been using the right tools of the trade.

Join us in conversation with Gift Dick Banda, as he shares his experiences in the world of photography. Banda, who began his creative career ten years ago, gives insight into the life of a photographer. As a photographer, film director and art director he talks about the connection that photography has to other creative spaces. His practical knowledge and experience promise to widen the dialogue about photography.

Catapulted to even greater fame by a photograph of his beaming niece holding a loaf of bread, Lungisani is the ideal person to talk about how timing and technique are corner- stones to becoming a great photographer.The day of the photoshoot was meticulously planned with every detail envisioned in advance, but it was that click at the right time that produced the perfect image.This balance between timing and technique is reflected in Mjaji’s work. A glimpse into his current project “My Footprint” tells the story of a consummate professional with a profound creative eye. Currently studying commer- cial photography at the Tshwane University of Technology, Lungisani is an inspiration to young photographers and proof that photography is a viable and sustainable profession.
