ABOUT DPF
Welcome to the Durban Photography Fair, where creativity meets community and passion transforms into art. Our fair is a celebration of photography like no other, and it all began with a vision to give back to our beloved city of Durban.
Born from the passionate heart of its founder, Lungelo Mngomezulu, the Durban Photography Fair is an immersive experience designed to empower, inspire, and connect photography enthusiasts, professionals, and artists.
The Fair is a celebration of the art of photography and a platform for creativity, knowledge sharing, and community building.
The 2023 launch event is a build up to a larger fair in 2024 that will see more participants from around the country and the continent; growing the community and exploring the opportunities in photography beyond our borders, to Africa and the rest of the world.
The Exhibitors
The exhibition persuades the audience to engage in dialogues with the photographic visuals on display that tell the story of Africa, positioning and locating themselves in the diverse African landscape.

The Theme
In choosing the theme “Picture a New Africa” for the Durban Photo Fair, we are making a deliberate and profound statement about the power of imagery and its ability to reshape perceptions, narratives, and realities. This theme is born out of a deep understanding of the current dynamics and aspirations of the African continent, especially its youth, who are demanding to be heard, seen,and taken seriously as the architects of the continent’s future. Here, we explore the importance of “Picturing a New Africa” and its profound relevance to the conversations around Africa today.
